When we started making this game, we eventually realized we'd love to figure out how to get it manufactured. Which meant we needed money. Which meant we needed a Kickstarter. Originally, Ben was going to tackle marketing. He was excited about the idea of building a following, sharing our process and story, etc. Well, life got busy, and so I ended up stepping in to help.

Long story short I've had one question in the back of my mind since then: How can I possibly take an idea and raise thousands of dollars (hopefully) for it?

I've played a lot of Wingspan, and I eventually landed on Stonemaier Games' blog. Which by the way is fantastic. It has infinite ideas about how to market and build an audience. I was stoked. I've quickly realized though that I don't have the time — currently a student — to provide a marketing campaign like Stonemaier Games does.

A couple guiding questions that have been helpful are:

  • With my time commitment, where should I be spending my time?
  • My process clearly isn't as detailed as Stonemaier / other games, so... who actually cares about it and where are they?
